While traditional spectrometers limit users solely to liquid samples, the 400 Series is capable of analyzing solid surfaces and powders as well.

400 Series Reflectance probes are routinely used for determining the authenticity of gems, artwork samples and even paper currency. The small sample size and fiber optic convenience make for an extremely versatile analysis tool.

Fiber Optic Reflectance Probes for
400 Series Spectrophotometers

The 400 Series Reflectance Probes are ideal for measuring the absorption characteristics of solid surfaces, powdered substrates and liquids.

The UV/Vis reflectance probes cover the wavelength range from 190 - 980 nm.

Two types of reflectance probes are available for use with the 400 Series Instruments. The two varieties accommodate single and dual source configurations for added convenience.

The fiber optic Reflectance Probes are extremely valuable for a variety of applications where traditional spectrophotometers simply are not feasible such as production line and process control situations. Many current UV-Vis spectrophotometers still require the user to place a sample into a cell within the instrument before an analysis can be performed. The fiber optic Reflectance Probe allows the user to perform an analysis on site at the location of the sample thus saving time
and expense.

Single Lamp Reflectance Probes
This arrangement consists of a single 600 µm input fiber encircled by twelve 200 µm source fibers providing 360° of illumination of a spot approximately 1 cm in diameter. The reflected light is then collected by the centrally located input fiber.

Dual Source Reflectance Probes

This arrangement consists of a single 600 µm input fiber encircled by two rows of twelve 200 µm source fibers providing 360° of illumination of a spot approximately 1 cm in diameter. The first row of twelve fibers comprises the UV illumination source with the outer row comprising the visible illumination source. The reflected light is then collected by the centrally located input fiber.
